The reading starts with Shug and Mr. ___ having sex. Celie obviously knows and it doesn't seem to bother her one bit. However I'm not really surprised because we all know she doesn't love him and so the less of him the better.
Then on page 81 Sofia returns. Leah, we both knew she was going to come back but she brought back some man they call Prizefighter. The mood is really akward obviously for Harpo and Sofia because now out of nowhere Harpo has a new wife named Squeak. As soon as I heard that name I knew she was a push over. A girl that waited on Harpo's every need. I think though that when Sofia came back, he noticed that's not what he wanted all along, even though he thought he just wanted a woman to push around. On page 82, Leah your assumption of Celie being attracted to Shug is pretty clear. She admits to looking at her butt like all the boys, and getting a little excited.
Then on page 84 a fight breaks out. Squeak feels intimidated it seems by Sofia. Sofia is getting too close and comfortable to Squeak's man. So then Squeak slaps Sofia on the head, which is nothing. Sofia turns around and punches her in the face. Squeak is bloody and two teeth short. Sofia leaves with the Prizefighter and that is that. You know though that when you read this part, that Harpo still loves Sofia and wants her back.
On page 86 we find out that Sofia has been put in jail. She assulted the mayor's wife and even the mayor. She spoke back to the mayor's wife and then when the mayor hit Sofia, she lost her temper. On page 91 Sofia says that she'll be in prison for twelve years. That sentence is crazy! Now if you murder someone you get twelve years, and they won't even let her out early if she's good. I know the sentence is so high because she's colored. That is pretty sad.
