Leah I also agree that Shug is the one that is really bringing out Celie's true inner feelings. She's teaching her and giving her confident to stand up for herself and be unique. Before Celie just went with the flow and followed what everyone told her to do. Shug is sure to talk her into anything now, I'm sure Celie would do anything she says. I'm not sure she's interesting in her more than friends, but you do bring up some good points. I just don't see that happening for some reason. I predict Shug is going to give Celie the confidence to leave Mr. ____ and find a better life.
